Tonight's a typical big binge night for me. I went to happy hour with my coworkers like I usually do. I actually found myself drinking a lot slower than usual. Right off the bat we all ordered 20 oz beers and whiskey neat. I took so long to drink it that people started giving me **** for it, and I wasn't intentionally trying to drink slow. I just didn't feel the desire to drink while I was enjoying some good conversation.

That said, I did have like 6 drinks there, and I'm home now and probably will keep drinking through the night.

But I feel optimistic that I've seen the first signs of this changing my drinking habits. Onward!

Hey wrench, good job...keep it going. It's interesting your experience sounds so similar to mine. I had a lot of stomach issues for first 3-4 weeks of taking Naltrexone, but they are completely gone now. Your concern about long-term compliance is understandable. What I found is that it becomes less and less of an issue. I'm not crazy about taking the Nal, but I'm not crazy about drinking without the Nal either.

I wish I would've just ordered my Nal online like you did. I went to a physician and it turned out to be a big hassle. I probably spent more money, and it's now on my medical records.

events like this are kind of the beginning. you're able to go somewhere and drink more slowly than everybody else. eventually those numbers for the night will come down. keep it up!

Something interesting happened last time I drank. I got drunk but I didn't black out. I honestly don't remember the last time I did that. I had about 10 drinks and it was approaching midnight. Typically this is the point where some switch flips in my brain, I enter a brown out, and proceed to compulsively drink 5 more until pass out. But this time, I just couldn't even force myself to have another. I opened a beer, and couldn't even take another sip, so I went to bed.

The hangover was particularly brutal, even though I had less than usual.

I'm feeling really good about this. I'm drinking again tonight and not really feeling the compulsive urges yet. Just enjoying. Will see how it goes.

Sorry you ran into the Nal-over, but it sounds like you're making great progress there, Wrench! Keep letting us know how you're doing!

1st month complete...

Last weekend I was travelling with family and drank fairly heavy a couple nights. I only took half a dose of nal each time because I didn't want to be wrecked by side effects and bad hangovers. I feel like it was still pretty effective.

This week cravings are down. If I drink this weekend I'll be back to the full dose. Definitely not cured but I do feel like I'm making slow progress still.

I'd go the full dose. it may keep you from drinking as much knowing the Nal-over isn't worth it. good luck!
