Hi Maggie,

Don't know if this has been suggested before but is it worth breaking things down a little into smaller goals? I guess your big aim is to be free of thinking about alcohol as well as being AF - if you want to be 100% AF? But on the way to the big goal (which can change along the way) smaller goals help. Your drinking is way down, instead of trying to get it down a large amount this week, try and get it down a small amount. Just literally a couple of units less for example. Then next week the same. No looking at the big picture for a bit as that can be overwhelming and feel like you are not getting there. I'm getting there. I had an odd weekend 2 weeks ago and was back to too much booze but I genuinely wonder if it was an extinction burst as the following week, with hardly any effort, my numbers just dropped. Not to AF and still not at "safe" levels but for me, a huge improvement and dropping off. I thought all was lost too and then the numbers went down. I'm now just trying to chip tiny bits off what is left, not big bits as I don't think that will happen, small steps. Big hugs to you xx

Oh Tish - thank you for the support - it is SO lovely to have the support that this forum and the folk here give - I was thinking the other day about 'alcoholics' and then was thinking about the people here - and thought to myself 'none of them are what in MY head, is an alcoholic !!' Even us alkies do not see us alkies as the type of alkies we think of - if you follow !!! LOL

Anyway - thank you for helping me and yes that is a good idea and I will try and do that. I really do need to take it one day at a time. I am having my first drink right now - but have already decided that tomorrow I will be AF - and being AF is SO much easier than it was pre Nal - so something is working - even though I find it hard to accept that it is.

Glad to hear that things are good with you too .... sounding really good.

Talked to my mum over the weekend and she asked when I was coming over next - I said maybe in the autumn and she was so thrilled ..... so might start checking out flights !

Thank you SO much for the support !!

hugs, Maggie x

Maggie - it certainly took us a long time to get addicted to alcohol. It certainly is not an instant cure as we all know. you ARE certainly making progress towards your goal as pointed out by others. You are certainly helping yourself and others by being such an active poster. Certainly good things come to those that do good deeds. So, by deduction, you are certainly going to reach your goals! Certainly!

Thank you reboot - your post made me smile ! Unfortunately on Monday I had 5 drinks - I used to have 5 with no problems but had the worst hangover ever on Tuesday - obviously was AF and also am AF today! I had such a bad tummy - and felt awful - the Nal definitely does give bad hangovers that is for sure - for me anyway! I am getting some DHM - the thrive did not work for me so am going to try the DHM alone - IF I have that many again !! Thanks for the support - I love that all of us here are so supportive of each other - it really does help!

Hugs, Maggie x

Well - I had a good week last week - 5 AF days and 2 drinking but each drinking was 5 drinks - I have got to work more on getting the amount down when I DO drink! When that happens then I will feel I am on the road to a cure !! But all in all I am happy with the result from last week - and I did not use the AB either !! So my AF days are either from hangovers or on my own - which is a vast improvement as I could only have AF days with my teeny bit of AB !! I still keep it close though! LOL

I miss Newlife - she is supposed to be posting from Ireland ! Wonder how she is doing?

Hugs, Maggie x

Maggie, congratulations on 5 days AF!!! That is grand news.
Isn't it great that just few weeks ago you have been impatient about the results, and now you managed 5 days AF in one week!
I am so happy for you.

And for the amount of drinking per occasion, I am sure that will also improve over time.
How is the drinking on Nal for you? I feel that with the pill alcohol tastes bland. The subtle taste of my favorite wine somehow misses the extra something to it. I kind of have the feeling that also the taste is altered, but I guess it's not the case, but merely the buzz that I am missing.
How about you?

Hi Chicken - I agree - the taste is not the same, until after the first one then it is .....  . I also got very angry last time I was drinking - I am not an angry person and so that was SO not me - hubs was amazed ! SO with the Nal-Overs and now the anger - plus I do not sleep if I have been drinking, I really do wonder if it is all worth it - all of these things make me think twice about the actual drinking - but I still do it - albeit less and less! Oh and in answer to your other post - I have no knowledge of Nodict .... sorry. Hopefully someone else might be able to shed some light on it for you? Have a great week,

hugs, Maggie x
