Hi Steven, I usually take 100 mg of Gabapentin in the AM and then 200 mg about 60 minutes before I go to bed. The 200 mg makes me very sleepy without drinking but with drinking I would pass out fast with 600-900 mg so not sure I could handle that?
Nal makes me so sleepy with drinking so on those nights I do not need to take Gaba but again if I did it would be two fold. When I take Nal & drink I usually fall asleep at 8-9PM.

I also took Bac before I tried Nal with TSM and had horrible side effects, I just felt awful.

Ummm, have I caused confusion somewhere?

I didn't intentionally use Baclofen with Nal/TSM.

I did try high dose baclofen for 4 months, suffered horrendous side effects which were restricting and limiting my life, went to see Dr Chick, who told me baclofen wasn't for me. It was then I asked for a nal prescription for TSM.

I then tapered off the baclofen and the relief was immense. I did use a small dose each night to help me sleep, a 20mg dose if I remember rightly, then stopped even that after I think 3-4 months.

I put my success down to TSM - unless the high dose blast did something I wasn't aware of!

Just for info, I did use GABA on and off 10 years ago for sports recovery reasons, it didn't stop me drinking excessively, and also GHB which is also thought to act on the same bits of the brain. I just OD'd to blackout on the stuff, it limited my drinking because I could get blotto on that instead with minimal hangover, that's if I wasn't drinking on top of it which = a right mess so I quit the drug!

I still believe that change of habit has to occur somewhere along the way. The people I know personally who succeeded were willing and able to do this - think hanging on for dear life AF, then only allowing 1 small drink to take off the edge, then staying AF as long as possible.

Ok that is extreme however that person who had been a 20 + year daily chugger, wanted their drinking to stop and go.

I already had the courage and previous AF experience to break my drinking, not everyone has that.

I also knew that I had had several close brushes with death as a result of my drinking - so huge incentive. The daily drinker didn't actually have those extremes, but they were prepared to break their habit, and did so living in a place that was far from anonymous!

Most members here have made movement, it just seems to be a sticking point.

Maybe the 20mg in the evening baclofen did help me?

I'm not so sure because I know I did a lot of active stuff to reduce my drinking.

For two days now I have been taking 10mg's of Bac. At 10mg I don't have side effects I did at 60,70.....

It's difficult to tell whether it's helped in this short time as my routine has been different and have been doing lot of driving. I'll know more when I get home.......back to my routine.

Summer

Well, back to my routine, and I threw 1/3 of a bottle of wine down the sink yesterday afternoon! Changed to diet coke......is the small dose of baclofen hitting the spot? I'd love to know, but time will tell.....

I'm off to a BBQ this afternoon. This would normally end up in a massive big drink......

facturer

Well, got to the pub ordered wine, then quickly changed my mind and had a soda and lime!.....Then ordered a small glass of wine instead of my usual large one....I just did not feel like drinking.

Went to BBQ had a few there, then got a cab home. Normally I would finish the wine left in the fridge (1/2 bottle) I went straight to bed.

It's morning now, I remember everything from last night, and I have not had the desire to finish the wine off this morning......so something is happening.(usually I can't remember getting home)....

I rang up the manufacturer of Baclofen to find out how long 10mg's would take to get into the system. 1-3 hours was the answer. So I'm taking the NAL and BAC together, 1 hour before.

This might be doing the trick for me, but I'm still treading carefully and trying not to overthink this......watch this space!!

Please keep us updated. I am really looking to use any tool I can. If taking BAC along with NAL helps, I am getting me some.

From my experience, Baclofen has horrendous side effects, and I had to stop. I had a supply left over from my trial. I read about it affecting the GABA receptors so I am experimenting. Only after a few days, I can see and feel something happening, but am keeping my judgement in check, just in case.......this is at a low dose of 10mg's a day, plus the NAL. Most people who succeed with BAC alone do so at high doses.

I am trialling low dose combined with NAL.....if it works, then it works. Watch this space...
