Numbers, I am so sorry for what you are going through. Really hard stuff.

But isn't is amazing that you are doing it and drinking only moderately? I too have lost weight without trying due to my lower alcohol consumption; it's a really nice bonus, isn't it???

Yesterday I forgot to take my nal, and it got to be a little late. Didn't think I was going to drink and then I wanted a glass of wine. I had this thought - oh what the hell, why don't I drink just this one glass without the nal? What could it hurt? Then the other voice in my head said - "are you crazy?" "why would you be that stupid when you have come this far?" "I mean, are you going to do this or not?" So I took the nal, waited the hour (It wasn't even hard the way it used to be), had the wine - one and a half glasses.

Yes, I would say this stuff works.

Thinking of you and hoping that things stabilize for you on the family front. Have a good weekend. Newlife

last night I got home from a 12 1/2hour day, ending with doing parent teacher conferences. I hadn't taken my Nal (wanted an AF day), but was ready to de-stress when I got home. made some tea, logged onto the TSM site, and realized I could live without a few glasses of wine. slept like a baby.

previously I would've partied down a little, thinking how much I "earned it". funny how my brain is working a little differently.

I drink at nights too, about the same number of units as Numbers (well 8, or more depending on how you count, two beers and a bottle of wine, plus alpha if I have something extra on hand, as I did last night).

I have abstained, for a few days, in the past few years, but generally I want that beer and wine at the end of the day. It is a sort of ritual, excuse to moan, moan to excuse myself, regressive to babydom, whine, wine, blah, blotto type of thing, I think.

Today I forgot an important appointment. I am not sure why, but I think it may have been partly due to brain fog caused by the alcohol the night before. Very bad. I felt very sorry.

So I got on the Net and Googled "drug that makes you feel bad if you drink" (antabuse, I guess) but for unknown reasons I ended up with Nal and then, The Sinclair Method. Very exciting. Very reasonable. I am going to find a doctor next week.

I drink partly (though this largely is my excuses talking!) to go to sleep, so Number's post where he says that the alcohol made him sleep after a lesser quantity, sound better and better. If alcohol should work as a (better) sleeping pill, for those occasions when I am genuinely unable to sleep (as opposed to just the "I have to because I can't sleep" excuse) then that is fine.

I worry at little about the cost. I wonder if it will be on insurance. But, suddenly I am think that there is a way out. There is hope! Well, I always thought I would just quit, but didn't and this sound a lot more hopeful. Thanks everyone.

Welcome Timtak - I do not sleep well if I have been drinking ! Once I either cut down or go AF (Alcohol Free), I sleep so much better. Nal is not a quick fix - we are pretty much all in it for the long haul and those for whom it doesn't work, I think, give up too soon. But I will try it and persevere simply to finally once and for all, get the demon AL, off my back!!

If you can find a doc to give it to you, then cost is not so much an issue - although once it works, as one is not buying AL, then the cost would not be an issue. Where are you (which country?) as that can also makes a difference as to whether or not your doc will give it to you.

Good luck anyway .....

hugs, Maggie

welcome timtak. I buy my nal from alldaychemist online and it is very reasonable. Works unless you are in Canada, I think. Good luck to you. Newlife
