Only just noticed this thread, oh dear . Glad you've managed the 12.5mg, I'd say you probably wouldn't notice a difference because your receptors will hardly be blocked with such a small dose. I have heard of people doing ok on 25 but I've never gone lower than 25mg. I've also NEVER had a hangover with Nal so far, but that's because nal cut my consumption right from day 1.

I just saw this thread after posting my own, similar story. However, I am now AFRAID to try this again! Was really WONDERING if, perhaps, there'd been a mix-up in the Rx and they gave me Antabuse by mistake.

hi. haven't been here for ages but am having another go at getting SERIOUS. to update, i have continued drinking,mostly without nal,mostly managing to stay at once a week but always a binge to blackout. recently after a few personal upsets i reverted back to daily or every other day so am having a wake up call. i have found in the past that if i drink after 1hour i feel very little difference. after 3 hours i can barely sip alcohol and somewhere in the middle i.have control.. i took 50mg of nal on Tuesday and drank after 90mins. it went fairly well. i drank a lot but was.definitely aware and to some extent in control. then at 4am i started throwing up. i posted this on the mywayout forums and coming back here realize it almost.word for.word my post.here. though this time i was throwing up for 8 hours. couldn't even keep.water down. again this has made me terrified of goigoing through this again. analyzing i wonder if it was again lack of food with nal. i had a small meal about an hour before pill and some crisps with drinks. any further thoughts or suggestions greatly appreciated. thanks.

This is why we need more doctors willing to supervise cures. It is completely ridiculous that you should have to go through this without competent medical assistance.

I don't know. Stick with 25mg until acclimated and apply normal-drinker techniques like alternating drinks with glasses of water and keeping munchies near? That would require willpower, and self-deprivation is counterproductive for extinction, but it might get you by until you can tolerate the nal better.

Is it possible that you simply puked from the alcohol? On an empty stomach, we sometimes puke pretty easily.

Maybe. When I first started (25mg) I had an extended feeling of nausea that lasted for two days each time I took Nal. Then I started taking the Nal (now 50mg) with a mouthful of food - a piece of cheese or fruit. The initial side effects were much reduced. I also make sure I am not drinking on an empty stomach. It seems to help me a lot with the side effects.

thanks for your input. Im going to take nal and not drink.a couple of times. maybe get my body used.to it then have another go.. WITH FOOD. pretty sure it wasn't just the booze. I very very rairly throw up. ill update on my progress

I had a better time of it taking 25mg, wait one hour, then another 25mgs, wait another hour and drink.

I puked quite a bit my second time, so hard my throat swelled and i was gaging on my uvula (dangly bit in throat).

On the plus side, I had horrible side effects, but i reached extinction in 3 pills.

thanks, I will try splitting my dose. I haven't had a drink since my puking episode (a great deterrant). I took 50mg with food just to test the water. I did feel a bit grotty and tired, but hopefully it will be getting my body used to it. planning on drinking this weekend so will go for the split dose
