Marianne,
Do you feel so awful because you drank a lot or is it because you've got a nalover?

Easy for me to say, I know, but don't beat yourself up. You ask why you do what you? Well, it's mostly because you have a dependency on alcohol that hasn't been cured by TSM yet. It's early days and although you may know on some level that you won't get the buzz, your opioid receptors haven't caught onto that yet.Your brain still wants the buzz and it tells you to drink more to try and get it. Over time, it will get the message and the urge to drink will lessen. We can't rationalise our way out of this or beat ourselves up because of the harm we're doing. If you could just stop then you would have done so before now. As it is, you're following the protocol, taking the Nal and doing your best. Of course you can steps to help yourself... you can try to slow down, pace your drinks, distract yourself and drink water in between...all these things will help but you're also doing one of the best things to help yourself which is following The Sinclair Method.

Have faith and, as some wise person told me, kiss (keep it simple silly)!

That was me last Sunday. I feel for you! I hope you feel better on Sunday. I had my horrible hangover last Sunday and finally felt better on Tuesday. Ugh.

Marianne,

You're getting some great advice and feedback here. We have a tendency to over-berate ourselves for our slips and under-value our successes.

So I'm here to remind you that you're taking action to get better and healthier. And overall you are doing better! You went to that Ren-whatever and hardly drank! But we're still going to have hangovers, until we're cured - and we're just not there yet. That day is coming - just keep following the protocol - and have faith.

Hang in there!
Sheryl

PS, for the record, I had a two-day hangover and horrible self-flaggelation over it last week, too. But yesterday and today are better, and tomorrow starts a whole new week.

Thank you everyone!

I was so upset with myself and I felt like shiza! Seriously bad hangover and probably nalover. I don't normally drink beer or wine and that day I had 2 beers so maybe the change affected me. Yesterday was better but not perfect. Today is much better but I still drank the equivilant of 3 drinks... ugh.

I really needed the positive feedback and am just so thankful to have you'all here to give it. I am abiding by protocal and I guess I just need to find patience within me instead of rushing it and trying to make it something it's not.

So appreciate all the advice and wish I could hug everyone of you.

Welcome week 5.

Marianne

I felt bad Saturday as well from too many Friday. I still met up with friends Saturday, and started to feed the hangover. I drank too many Saturday also, but drank at 12 over 6 hours with food, as compared to Friday, 18 in 4 hours with no food.

As Forest Gump says "It Happens" but the great thing is, now you are here, with us, and we are fighting together and regretful together.

Just posting and acknowledging our failures and victories keeps the dangling carrot in the right direction.

Thanks Christopher!

So, new issues to deal with... along side my fatty liver my gall bladder decided to act up and my PCP thinks I will need that sucker taken out. I went in for an ultra sound this am so we'll see. It's a twisted alcoholic who would think up front that at least that will force me to have a couple AF days!!!! kinda sick but I think you'all can understand.

I actually put the drink down at 8 last night, made some tea and read in my bed for an hour before hitting the hay, not sure if it's b/c I'm terribly lathargic due to my g/bladder or if I had some extra will power but whatever the case I drank much less last night and feel good about that.

Hope you'all are doing well and once I get some energy back I'll post more.

Marianne

I have really enjoyed reading your posts. VERY helpful and boy can I relate! Hope you are feeling better. Had my gall bladder out several years ago. Trust me, you will feel tons better afterwords. I have also thought many times how thankful I was to have something coming up that would force me to have an AF day. Hang in there.

Hi Marianne,

Sorry you're feeling slow but good work with putting that glass down and choosing something else!

Hope your health issues are resolved soon, and yes, these unexpected setbacks can be blessings in disguise for us if they propel us into any time AF.

Hang in there!

Sheryl

Marianne,

I like what Sheryl said "putting the glass down and choosing something else!" is something we all need to do more often. TSM/Nal should be exposing that "pause" button that we managed to bury so deep in ourselves. I'm starting to recognize that button and choosing to press it rather than continue drinking....

Hope you get your energy back soon!

Later,
Rich

And it's a wonderful feeling!

Marianne, your energy and focus will return and you'll get back on track. Don't doubt it for a moment!
