Reporting back that, as promised to myself, I did take 25mg of Nal last night.....but felt just awful after that. Very queezy. After waiting an hour, had one glass of wine wondering if that would help(!) but didn't at all. Ended up going to bed at 7:45pm. Upside is I did only drink one glass of wine.

Now I'm in a quandary, I've been invited out for wine and appetizers. Before last night, I planned to take the Nal but now not so sure I should do it in case I feel similar and end up cancelling. Until last night, I've never felt any reaction to the Nal. Wonder if I had a bad reaction b/c I was feeling hung-overish all day yesterday and the Nal just magnified it?

Am thinking I'll skip the Nal tonight and white knuckle it and try Nal tomorrow when I can go to bed at 8pm if its not working out.

Almost a month has gone by, not taking Nal, so I tried 25 mg again on June 6....after 45 min, started feeling really queasy again. Went to bed at 8pm after drinking only 1 glass of wine. (The only upside to the evening.) Now I'm really anxious about taking the Nal. Got it overseas and while some pills didn't bother me at all, the ones I've recently taken have made me feel very sick with extreme difficulty to concentrate. Now what? Common sense tells me to stop trying the Nal and white knuckle it going forward. Will stick with this board b/c it's my "therapy" but will be doing so w/out taking the Naltrexone. Will be on the look out for doctors in the SF Bay area that prescribe Nal and then I'll try it again under safer circumstances. Pretty bummed by this....Looking at my numbers, I'm clearly struggling. The only plus or step forward is that I'm still counting my units and as a result am more in control than I was w/out the journal.

Wishing everyone on this forum well in your struggles.

oh, man! That's a real bummer. So...you took it for the first month w/o the bad side effects? Yeah, seeking the support of a dr. makes sense to me. I would think where you live would be a hot bed of progressive thinkers in that regard, right? At least, compared to most of the country.

I know you're disappointed in this delay, but all is not lost, and your #'s are a lot better than when you started, and not that far out of the healthy range. ;) I agree, tracking #'s and awareness that brings has got to be helpful. Take care...

Okay, August 21 and I'm back. Took 25mg of Nal from one of the earlier packages I used (w/out side effects) and am 20 minutes in. Wondering if I'll get the dreadful nauseous feeling again? Have not been religiously counting the units...a dangerous slippery slope...and not surprisingly the unit intake is increasing...5 units per night on average. Haven't hit the black out stage yet but feel I'm getting close so am getting anxious about how to tackle this drinking problem. What a pain.

Keep in mind that taking only 25mg of NAL is doing next to nothing for you from an extinction standpoint. Eskapa and Sinclair are VERY clear that you need to take at least 50mg of NAL exactly one hour before drinking.

The only reason to start at 25mg is to ramp up to 50mg. If this doesn't happen in a week or so, you are just wasting your time.

Understand Q; thank you for your comment.

It's just I have not taken Nal in several weeks so I am starting all over again. Tonight was day 1. Am very pleased to report that 2 hrs in I have no nauseousness so am wondering if AllDayChemist is sending out Nal w/ inconsistent quality? I wonder if anyone else has experienced taking some boxes of Nal w/ no side effects and others w/ terrible side effects?

I have never noticed a difference in side effects from one brand of NAL to another.

I initially started with NAL from a US pharmacy via a prescription from my Dr. After 6 months or so, I switched to Naltima from AllDayChemist. It seemed to work the same as the US brand. It wasn't until I switched to Nodict that I noticed a difference.

Q... what kind of difference with Nodict? I'm afraid to ask since I've been taking that from the beginning, but not hiding my head in the sand...

There is a pretty detailed discussion about it here: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3022

I'm lucky enough to have no side effects at all, but others here have emphasized the need to take NAL on a full stomach. Just FWIW.
