Hi, this is so scary that my palms are perspiring. Only 2 days on 50 nal and not sleeping and a big rash spreading.
I've spent a lot of time reading a lot of the posts and picked up a lot of hints, thanks to ev1. I haven't read Dr Escapa's book, but intend to search for it.
I have been drinking on and off all my life, but in the last 5 yrs have rarely had an AF day.
I have a very supportive partner and this time I am determined to use some 'control', lots of exercise and a positive attitude.
This probably doesn't make much sense, but I just wanted to say hi.

Yes minni, you are NOT ALONE, we are all struggling with AL in many different ways, and we are making various progresses.

If you care to write your story, I believe it helps to unload some of the "hidden" burden. Unload, and we will all help each other climb the hill to progress.

Welcome Minni --

It makes sense. Do not take 50 mg right away -- try 25 mg until your body gets used to it. Take it on a full stomach! The side effects will go away. Be patient. Ask questions!

My best,

Nick

Welcom aboard. Like all have said, read thru the forum, use the search function, and keep posting progress/ questions/ concerns. There are a lot of answers here. If it starts kicking in you may notice drastic results w/ in the first few weeks and you'll love it. Especially if you have been thru all the BS things before.

Hi minni,

With reference to your comment about the rash, I would like to draw your attention to the following:

http://www.drugs.com/sfx/naltrexone-side-effects.html

In particular, the above website states:

"Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using Naltrexone:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); abdominal or stomach pain; cramping; dark urine; depression; suicidal thoughts or behaviors; unusual tiredness or weakness; vomiting; white bowel movements; yellowing of the skin or eyes".

Please, be careful.

And, finally, welcome to our community!

V.

Hi Minni, I'm so glad you found us. I know you're probably nervous about doing something that has so much hope for you but you've never heard about it in the news. I was there a few months ago myself and I imagine all of us were there at one time, but it's ok you'll be fine. Please get the book and read it it will put your mind to ease and start plugging away like the rest of us. We're all on a journey that might be different for each of us and that's why you should post often and let us know how you're doing. If you have questions there all so many who have come so far that can answer your questions.

God bless
corkit

I am very humbled and thankful for all your support. I believe that i am in the 'honeymoon' phase. it is pretty easy to wait an hour after the nal. the other day I went to lunch with a few friends AND never touched a drop, I was so pleased with myself.
I'm not sure how you calculate the alcohol intake (still trying to find the book) how much would 1 bottle of wine be?
Another first, I haven't ridden my motorbike in 6 months and being an older novice had lost all confidence. Well, I signed up for a one day course all off road, and the next day rode my bike around for a few hours. It was a wonderful feeling being back in control.
My SO is still trying to be helpfull, but I feel myself getting defensive when he asks how much I have had, he has never bothered before...
I also went and stacked up ready for the holidays, (probably not the smartest thing to do- but it was on special)
Thanks again for you contact...

Hi minni

there are different measures of what constitutes a 'standard drink' or 'unit' - depending on what country you're in.

personally I find the UK version the easiest to work with. 1 unit is 10ml of pure alcohol. MAXIMUM recommended 'safe' levels are 14 units per week for women and 21 for me. 'Moderate' drinking is typically considered to be about 2/3 of this total and no more than 3-4 units per session for men (therefore ~ 2-3 for women)

Win is typically about 14% alcohol, so 1 litre would be 14 units. Standard wine bottles here are 3/4 litre (not sure what size bottles you have on Oz) so ~ 10-11 units per bottle

It isn't usually that difficult to do the calculation - most of us have favourite tipples, so just work it out once in a spare moment - how many units in your typical drink - and go from there.
