Dab, I've been wondering what's going on with you. Glad you've had the drive to keep w/ the Nal and happy for you that you've made a discovery about "when" you should take the Nal. I'm still standing by for when you too ultimately call it and say "I'm cured" :)

Hmmm...sounds like the usual TSM "roller coaster", which I've come to understand for at least ME means not just the physical effects of the extinction process, but also my own attitude, and yes, AMBIVALENCE, which was shocking for me to admit. But why not! As alcohol got less scary and misery-inducing (and at least MORE "controllable"), it was natural for me to start missing the "fun" aspects, and start messin' w/ the rules a bit. Good for you, discovering that 1 and a half hours is better for you! Keep wrestling w/ it and the extinction process will move along, too...you can do it! ;)

I also find that 2 hours can be helpful for me - otherwise the first hour I generally feel very nauseous anyways, so it's not great to have to do that in a public space or on public transport. Glad to see you're back on the nal wagon, dab, even if I must say that my own progress has not been very successful and I'm starting to doubt in nal's power for me :( Hopefully you are different!

Well, folks, here I am again -- two and a half years after quitting the Nal. Why I quit? I don't remember. Probably the "Nalovers", those horrific hangovers one has while taking Nal and binge drinking (6+ drinks for me). Since then, thanks to intense psychotherapy, my drinking hasn't gotten worse. It hasn't gotten much better either, which now has me rethinking the therapy and rethinking the Nal! So I'm back on the Nal! Day 3 now. Horrible nausea and stomach pain, especially last night. Forgot about starting out on a lower dose, so I may take just half today (25 mg's) and titrate up to the standard 50. Will be very interested to see who's still here on the Forum, especially those since cured.

I hope my experiences can be of help to others. I'm happy to be back, because nothing else has really worked for me, and I refuse to go to rehab. Nal came the closest after all these years of battling the bottle. Thank God the Nal is here for us. Therein lies my present hope.

We're all in this together.

KOKO (Keep on Keeping On -- I created that expression here!).

Dab

Hi Dab - I thank you for coming back and sharing with us whatever you can. I started Nal in January and although I had a good first few weeks, am still hoping for a 'cure'. I do have more AF days than I did - and they are easier, but have to agree that the Nal-overs are awful - when I drink I am still drinking 4-5 Guinness a night and feel awful the next day!!

Here's wishing you all the best this go round !

Hugs, Maggie

Welcome back Dab!! Nice to meet you and it will be interesting to see your perspective after the therapy and the initial try. Really hope that this time you will see the progress you want. Nal on!! Newlife
