All,

just out of curiosity has anyone been on Nal for any period of time then drank alcohol without taking Nal? I'm curious as to what the experience is like. I imagine the alcohol tastes even better than pre-Nal? Raging bender?

Not that I would even dare to do this, of course.

Just ask Weirdo-oh. He was beating himself up for a while there. Guess he forgot to take Nal with him when he went away. But don't worry, he got a verbal beating, so I'm sure he'll be more careful now. As to what difference it made, I cannot answer.
I think a few have taken their Nal but did not wait the full hour. They expressed no negative symptoms. However let's not do that. Not that you would, just that we care. ;)

I've done it. :(

Very foolish in my opinion because even though there was no increase in consumption there was a subtle return to thinking about booze early in the day, and a subtle return to waiting for 'drink' time to come.

In my humble opinion this is quite dangerous simply because the return to pre-Nal drinking/craving/obsession is quite subtle but FAST. In my case I was cured, but even though I was really doing well and having weeks without drinking, a few times I did drink without nal (waiting for shipment) it did not take long to feel the danger. My mental committment went out the window when the physical craving came back. I don't know how this works in the brain - but it does happen.

This is disconcerting because it made me realize for the first time that this is a lifetime committment for many of us. Some like Springrider and Bob seem to have left booze behind but some of us for many different reasons are going to be confronted with this difficulty daily/weekly/whatever - lesson for me and for us all:

Make sure you are committed to TSM for a lifetime if necessary in your case, and make sure you don't run out!!

GBH, good to hear from you. I pretty much thought the same thing that Nal will be a lifelong commitment. So it was more a more gradual weakening effect as opposed to a Dr. Jekyll-Mr. Hyde moment?

I have not drank w/o nal, but last night I only waited 10 minutes before drinking. I had a meeting with my boss and another company that we're working with and they unexpectedly invited us out to the bar after the meeting. I had to quickly swallow a nal and I chewed it to get it into my system faster.

Lately on nal, I don't even feel the first drink, but last night I only had one beer at the bar and I definitely felt buzzed. I could control myself enough not to get a second drink even though it was going on the other company's tab. I went home and finished the night with 3 more drinks, which is actually quite tame for me.

I absolutely don't recommend doing what I did last night, but it wasn't the end of the world either. I just don't want to get into that habit because it can be a slippery slope.
