I am new to TSM...just got my NAl from my doc...didn't drink last night at all...deciding if I should start tonight ( which really sounds like a good idea ) or just try to remain completely sober...the main thing I am worried about is the idea that I should avoid doing things that I enjoy while on NAL...such as exercising...it's my understanding that if I would like to exercise I should avoid drinking and NAL for a couple days to let it clear out of my system...the problem with that is I am a daily drinker but I always manage to work out at least a few days a week...and when I'm sober I work out pretty much everyday...

I am just worried that NAL might take away the enjoyment I have from things like golf, exercise, work, etc...as that seemed to be something that Dr. Eskapa suggested in a podcast I recently listened to. Any thoughts?

I avoid it like the plague. but that's no different than before TSM. more later, as far s sex, I did it a lot on Nal, and after 4 months I needed a taffy puller to get going.

really I wouldn't worry about it. check out DOMD's thread. he liked to ride bikes. it didn't seem to stop him. and really as far as sex is concerned it didn't botherr me

Most likely BS and I wouldn't worry about it. At all. There is no, none whatsoever, experimental basis for this advice. It is given based entirely on a theoretical considerations of the flimsiest kind. The idea that everything responds equally to NAL is just plain ridiculous. Chances that this advice is correct exist but they are very very low, IMHO.

Don't burden yourself with this - address serious issue and worry about everything else when you are free from alcoholism.

I think I figured out why you can't drink much on NAL...I have barely had four beers and I am about to go to sleep! Hah...j/k..probably the side effects...

I personally believe those type of concerns are totally over-blown. I've golfed many times recently on NAL and didn't notice any difference. Same with eating spicy foods and other things mentioned in Eskapa' book. If anything, they are talking about activities that would release large amounts of endorphins in your brain, vigorous exercise like running a marathon, sky-diving, gambling, etc. If you did those activities for the endorphin high it is possible you wouldn't receive the same reinforcement as before.

Houston, I go to the gym on almost a daily basis and Naltrexone definitely has an impact on parts of my workout. The first time I ran on the treadmill after Nal I could barely run a mile (I usually run 5). It's gotten a lot better and I'm back to my pre-Nal distances, but I definitely don't experience the same runners high (while on Nal). But there is a silver lining, if you're off Nal for a few days the runners high comes back even stronger.

As for lifting weights or using equipment, I don't notice a huge difference.

Chance

Thanks Chance! I think I might just reserve cardio for when I am a couple days removed from AL and NAL and just focus on weight training on the other days...I hate doing that as most of my workouts consists of cardio and weight training but sounds to me like my cardio days should be more rewarding...thanks again for your input.
