Since the ABV of beer can vary wildly, I find it a good idea to use a tool like this one to track your consumption:

Mind you, I'm a big craft beer drinker, so the beers I drink can range from being as weak as light beer to as potent as a strong wine. When one bottle of a big beer is equal to four cans of a normal beer, it's best to track another way!
