A lot of you have offered in the past to help contribute to the upkeep costs of this site. I've resisted up until now mostly because I considered it a pain in the butt to deal with.

Before I go on, let me reiterate something: This site has always been, and always will be, free to its members. There are not and never will be "access levels" or "memberships" that entitle anyone to content that others cannot see. That said, I reserve the right to require (free) registration to view some content. There is no such protected content right now but just in case the need arises...

Since the site's inception a couple years ago I've borne the costs of hosting and domain registration myself as sort of a community service but going forward I'm going to offer the opportunity to donate if you feel led to do so. Whether folks donate or not, the site will go on - I will continue to financially support it myself to whatever extent necessary. I have a good job and other outside income so I don't want or need to profit from this site at all.

The main reason I'm bringing this up is that every year I get hit with a bunch of domain name renewals and every month a hosting fee gets debited from my joint checking account and my wife is convinced "GoDaddy" must be some sort of porn site. I'd really like to just pre-pay a few years of domain name registration and hosting and be done with it for a while.

Here is what I propose: Anything I receive in excess of the costs to prepay the domain name and hosting - plus add an automatic backup service to relieve me from having to mess with it - will be kept in reserve to provide free or reduced-price copies of Eskapa's book for folks who need them. I will post a message about that once I know what we've got to work with. I'm going to try to buy them wholesale from BenBella books (the publisher) since they're literally across the street from my office.
