Although I'm a new member here I have been on TSM since 10-9-09 so far. I went through hell to just get a prescription for naltrexone in the first place. Now, I am just beginning to feel changes in my drinking habits and my thoughts about drinking. I really had my doubts about this early on but I read the book (as did my wife) and I put my hopes into it. Since the day I received my pills I have been true about taking it an hour before drinking anything. For me it's only been about 1 month so far but like I said before I am feeling a change that is very real and I'm SO HAPPY about this! Before starting this I was drinking around 10-12 beers a night almost every night. Now it is down to around 8 beers on the heavy nights and it is no longer every night. I find myself now not really wanting to drink some nights at all. At first I would anyway because it was like a routeen for me, but now I am really coming home some nights and going to bed. I'm so encouraged right now people! It's like I feel a fog SLOWLY lifting from my head because I feel so much better getting up and going to work.

Welcome Wolf.
That sounds similar to my wife's experience. she has been TSM for four weeks and has seen similar changes. AF days where she simply goes to sleep were a very rare occurrence prior to TSM. Sounds like your wife is supportive too.

Nice to meet you wolfman, welcome to our wonderful community here!

I'm sorry, I have the urge to call you wolfy (and may well do so!) hope you don't mind too much :)

It's so great to hear of your progress with TSM already, wish you all the best with it, and look forward to reading of your progress here.

Welcome! True extinction takes months so the immediate drop is probably the "honeymoon effect" -- temporary while your body adjusts to naltrexone. Don't be too worried if your drinking spikes back up -- that would not be unusual on the TSM roller coaster. Don't be afraid to ask questions.

My best,

Nick

Welcome from me as well Wolfman!

Glad you're seeing some positive changes so early on. That's a good sign that the Naltrexone is having an efffect on you. We don't want to rain on your parade, but as Nick said - this is probably the honeymoon phase, but who says you can't enjoy it while it lasts? Just don't freak out if your drinking jumps back to normal levels, or maybe even worse at times. It can be a long road, but you're headed in the right direction, and we'll all be here to entertain you along the way - Happy Trails!

Thanks everyone for the greetings and support! It really meant alot to me. I wrote before that I was 1 month into TSM, I meant to say 2 months. I started my pills on the 8-9 of October. I do think I have felt some of the "honey moon effect" so far early on, and I have had a few bad nights lately. I am still having about 3 of what I would call hard nights a week, but I am finding that after the same time I used to drink a 12 pack I am finding on average 4 beers left at about the same time I used to shut it down and crawl into bed. So, that is encouraging for me. I have also made it sober through 3 out of the last 4 weekends with out even thinking about it. I made it out deer hunting with my brother Friday and shot me one! Hunting was once something that used to be very important to me but like alot of other things, fell away from me over the years. I know that I still have a ways to go friends, I'm not feeling anything like victory yet but life is real good right now compared to where I was before I started this medication. I have hope now, and I have grabbed a hold of it and wont let go for anything! I will never again drink a drop of alcohol without first taking my naltrexone (and waiting an hour) ever. I feel like this is my last shot. Thanks for being there for me people!

That's great! Focus on your improvement and forget about "being cured" within 3 or four months. Focus on your better life.

My best,

Nick

VIII - you are cracking me up with this

Wolfy - welcome and ditto what the others have said. This is your ticket to a better life. Don't fret the time line, or the cure, or any preconcieved notions you may have too much; just do the program and prepare to enjoy a new lease on life. TSM has been a an absolute life changer for so many of us, maybe not exactly how we thought it would work, but astounding nonetheless!

Eight months ago I would have had 18 drinks and woke up in a puddle. Tonight I had 4, and I'm going to bed happy! Just another miracle in a life once filled with despair, but now a dream - thanks to this method ;)

Ah man I know this all too well. I am right were you are reclaiming the old me and all the things that I loved to do. Gotta love how booze strips those things and leaves you a babbling drunken idiot taliking about those things you loved and not doing....booze gives you a bad case of the "USTAS" I used to do this I used to do that...LOL
