Hello
My name is Larry and I have introduced my wife to this treatment plan as an alternative to Antabuse which she did not find tolerable. I am hopeful as this program makes sense to me on many levels. She already has a prescription to Naltrexone as her doctor prescribed this for "cravings". She is 5'-1" and weighs 110 pounds. Her pills are 50 mg's. I have ordered the book, but she is starting today. I am still feeling my way around this site and am looking for good places to start for dosage etc. My wife is eager to get a grip on her demons and is hopeful that TSM will be the ticket. We are looking forward to using this forum as a tool and for encouragement. thanks for reading our post; we will both be posting from time to time under this handle.

best
L

Welcome you two! :D Common practice is to cut your 50mg pills in half for the first couple/few doses until the nausea and spaciness subsides. Not everyone gets these side effects but a lot of us do, they tend to go away very quickly and don't last more than a week or two. Keep reading!

Also take the Nal on a full stomach which seems to help offset nausea.
Good luck

Welcome. Yes, make sure she takes only 25 mg the first time and once the nausea and spaciness subside, move up to 50 mg. This typically takes a few dosages. TAKE IT ON A FULL STOMACH to reduce the nausea. Side effects can be troublesome but go away after a week, two at the most, for almost everybody. Sleep disturbance initially is also common but goes away also.

Welcome and good luck.

Nick

Yes, my wife will be drinking while taking the Naltrexone. She is not seeing the doctor who prescribed anymore. she went to a local "specialist" who did all the usual stuff and had her on a mish-mash of pills while abstaining. I have been reading with some interest about TSM and feel she is a good candidate for it. Last night was her first night trying it out. She got a bottle of wine and drank it. She had some vodka hidden which she drank as well. This is going to require some real patience, I can see; but that's another story. At least she took the pill first. She seemed quite intoxicated. I guess I was expecting some sort of reduced effect from the use of an O.A.

Hanging on
Larry

Well, she did drink quite a bit. It will take some time. I didn't have any reduction or honeymoon period. I was still intoxicated but didn't get as nutso as usual. Is that her normal amount? I did experience drinking a lot more on occasion, trying to drink beyond what a buzz is like on naltrexone.
Also, it is almost like you get buzzed faster. You feel all the physical/ depressive effects as usual. The energetic and euphoric effects are missing though. This causes me to get tired/ sleepy faster than before. Could this be what you saw? Believe me, let her go to sleep. Sometimes my wife has an issue w/ this. I believe it is part of the healing, I know when I have had enough, I am tired, I am making a healthy decision. The difference btwn then and now.
We're prayin for ya.

It seemed she got drunk fast, and got a little mean.
