Hi,
i've got an appointment to see a psychiatrist who MAY prescribe naltrexone for me, BUT i've bought some from goldpharma, just in case. and also to throw his hand a little if it comes to it.
however, i've had no alcohol for a few weeks, due to pressures from family, who are supportive of my trying TSM. i know i realistically need to not be abstinent for it to help, and when i start naltrexone i need to drink with it for it to help in any way. my question is, if i have a drink before starting the nalterxone, with the intention of starting it a day or so later, is that a bad plan or a good plan?

anyone got any input?

thanks

Having a drink before starting Naltrexone won't have any effect on the sinclair method effectiveness. Having a drink without Naltrexone, even once after starting TSM is a bad idea. I can't tell you what to do, but if you have pretty bad issues when you drink, I'd be cautious.

Hi and welcome graemet. You would just be delaying your start date. If you did decide to drink before starting TSM. What would it accomplish that could possibly be good?

I did the last hurrah thing, but it wasn't satisfying. It was just one more night of being drunk, no different than the thousands before it.

Like Plant said, it's just delaying your recovery. As long as you do it safely, that's not a big deal, but, as Plant also said, it doesn't really accomplish anything other than one more wasted night and a hangover.

Thanks folks
I'll keep struggling on for now then. my reasoning was, the pills aren't here, and things aren't exactly getting easier. Hopefully they won't be too much longer, certainly before my appointment in 2 weeks :)

That should be interesting...your family wants you to not drink, but they're supportive of TSM. Are they going to monitor you as you do this, or just cross their fingers and leave you be?

Also, I'm a last hoorah kind of guy myself but, in this case, it might be best to just skip it as you have loved ones worried about your drinking.

they're pretty much letting me get on with it, i think expecting it to fail dismally and they can railroad me into doing AA meetings etc. BUT, if it works out, and i can control my drinking with naltrexone, which has arrived now, they wont have anything to complain about and no reasons for me to go to meetings, or rehab or any of that nonsense.

i have agreed to tracking what i drink with a smartphone app, and i've added the details of the drinks i would normally have so i can pick from the list to make things easier. this should hopefully show a downward trend and show anyone who looks at it that TSM is working.

we'll see hwo it goes i guess.

starting the pills tonight with 25mg and a couple of drinks, literally a couple as i'm busy in the morning, so cant be hung over and there's only two in the house at the moment, which won't be added to.

The default for treating problems like this is still AA, 12 steps etc. I was told that was the only thing I could consider doing, by the experts.

Well, naltrexone worked beautifully, however not right away. Perhaps the most helpful thing was to keep a positive attitude, and believe in it.

I just want to wish you good luck. I've been doing TSM for less than two weeks, and I have already seen a dramatic decrease in my alcohol consumption. It has truly been a lifeline for me. I hope you have the same response.
